Digital Transformation in Healthcare

Technology continues to advance at lightning speed and it’s vital to not only keep up but steer clear of pitfalls. The NYC Chapters of AMFP and ASHRAE, working together, have assembled a distinguished panel of experts to present state of the art digital solutions in the healthcare environment. Some of the topics will include buy in from owners and operators, integration of older systems and spaces with new technology, building intelligence, integration of building operations and equipment, the cloud and cybersecurity. We will delve into cost benefits of applying digital technology within the Healthcare Built Environment.

Speaker Bios:

Jaco Cronje is a digital solutions architect and national lead for WSP’s Systems Integration practice. He works on the development of digital system architectures and deployment of enterprise level data collection, analysis techniques, and control strategies driving energy efficiency, optimizing operations and enhancing user experiences in the converged Building Automation Systems, Smart City and Future Healthcare realm. Jaco has served as the technical lead for cybersecurity assessments and implementations for both private and federal projects globally.

Darryl Halickman is a Senior Project Manager with Real Estate Development + Facilities at NYU Langone Health. With over 15 years of projects and facilities management experience in healthcare, life sciences and higher education, Ms. Halickman is the go-to resource for complex, multidisciplinary, infrastructure and resiliency-focused projects. Ms. Halickman has been instrumental developing the cybersecurity program specific to building technology and infrastructure systems at NYU Langone Health, from project conception through the entire facility lifecycle. In addition to cybersecurity, Ms. Halickman is also a member of the medical center’s Severe Weather Planning team and is passionate about climate resilience. Ms. Halickman has a Bachelor’s in Architecture from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, and a Master’s in Facilities Management from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. She is also a member of IFMA NYC and former chair of the Emerging Leaders Mentorship Program. She is an associate member of American Institute of Architects, Brooklyn Chapter.

William Morgan is responsible for Enterprise Solutions at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. His responsibilities include management of Enterprise Systems, Portfolio Management of Clinical, Research and Business Systems, Business Relationship Management, Surgery Informatics, HR and Employee Health Services Technology. Prior to joining Memorial Sloan Kettering, Mr. Morgan served as Senior Vice President, Global Human Resources at the NASDAQ. Before joining NASDAQ, Mr. Morgan was Executive Vice President Technology and Operations, Chief Information Officer at the Philadelphia Stock Exchange, Inc. (PHLX) with responsibility for the Exchange’s Technology Division and Exchange Market Operations. Mr. Morgan has over 30 years of experience in technology, operations and Human Resources. He has received numerous awards for his work including the Society for Information Management (SIM) Leadership Award and the LaSalle University Information Technology Leadership Award . Mr Morgan has also been a finalist for the Computerworld Smithsonian Award. He most recently received the US Options Industry Life Time Contribution Award and was inducted into the Crowd of Fame by the Options Clearing Corporation and the Options Industry Council. Mr. Morgan is a graduate of the Securities Industry Institute, at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. He is a Maxima Cum Laude graduate of Peirce College in Philadelphia with a degree in computer science.

Michael J. Rohan, AVP, Energy, Engineering & Infrastructure at Northwell Health, holds three plus decades of experience in all aspects of facilities management, including engineering, energy management, sustainability, budgeting and forecasting, career development and secession planning. As a seasoned project executive Mike provides innovative strategies to facilitate energy and infrastructure projects at reduced expense with improved outcomes. Prior to joining Northwell Health in 2003, Mike's career path included power plant management and operations, shipbuilding, and shipboard engineering. Mike holds a Bachelor of Engineering from SUNY Maritime College, an MBA from Long Island University, and a Master Certificate in Healthcare Leadership from Cornell University.

Zigmund (Zig) Rubel is the President and CEO of Forsight digital, a technology company focused on data-driven processes to plan and program healthcare facilities. Their tool, Forsight, enables achieving consensus in early project meetings saving time and money by using the global burden of disease to predict and project patient volumes. Zig has over 30 years of architectural design experience and has worked on over 20 million SF of healthcare facilities throughout the world. He helped define the American Institute of Architects, AIA, Guide for Integrated Project Delivery and its adoption in healthcare projects. He holds six US patents for building products and software. A native of Brooklyn, Zig is a founding Board Member and Treasurer for the Center For Innovation in the Design and Construction Industry. He is a member of the AIA College Of Fellows.

Mahmoud Shouman serves as Division Lead of the firm’s dedicated Building Intelligence (BI) division. He brings to the position a genuine passion for innovative and sustainable engineering solutions and a proven track record of thought leadership and successful BI deployments. Mr. Shouman works throughout the industry’s major verticals, applying a high level of expertise across BI platforms and integrations with building systems and end-user technologies. Well recognized by his peers in the industry for award-winning and high-profile designs and projects, Mr. Shouman was selected to sit on the CSA Group’s Executive Committee for Intelligent Building Systems where he continues to push the envelope on what is possible in the nascent space of BI engineering. Mahmoud is also the founding chair of Building Intelligence Group (BIG-NYC)—a cross-disciplinary education, support, and networking organization—and a volunteer with the Association of Medical Facility Professionals (AMFP). Mr. Shouman has extensive experience in portfolio digitization, use case strategy, and the development of portfolio-wide standards, in addition to the digital enablement of building systems and the design of BI technologies, software and use cases for master systems integration. Mr. Shouman has a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering and a Master’s in Engineering, with a specialization in Applied Sustainability, both from Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario.

Zachery (Zak) Wills, LEED AP, is the ASHRAE NYC Industry Partnerships Chair, and serves as a Senior Project Engineer with the JB&B Deep Carbon Reduction Group, where he leads the firm’s Healthcare Energy Modeling practice. He serves on the ASHRAE NYC Healthcare Decarb Taskforce, through which he participated in the New York Healthcare Protocol effort and assisted in the creation of ASHRAE’s recently announced “Decarbonizing with Resiliency: A Guide for New York Hospitals.” At JB&B, he has worked on numerous energy and HVAC design teams on projects spanning the healthcare, science & technology, transportation, residential, and commercial high-rise sectors. His work in the healthcare sector includes some of New York’s most renowned and respected medical centers such as NYU Langone Health, Northwell Health, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
