Speaker Bios:

Marissa Mead is licensed architect with 20 years of experience and an artist experienced in designing architecturally integrated artwork for public and private projects nationwide. Marissa is a Principal, Director of Art Integration, Svigals + Partners, an FCA Company and Co-Founder of design studio, Atelier Cue. She was the lead designer for the internationally recognized New Haven Botanical Garden of Healing, Dedicated to Victims of Gun Violence, as well as the New Britain Beehive Bridge, winner of the Chicago Atheneum Architecture Award. Marissa believes in the power of beautiful places to helping us heal, physically and emotionally. Her work demonstrates the transformative power of artful environments, bringing human scale, meaning, and delight to the built world.

Debbi Schonberger-Pierce brings nearly three decades of experience in art consulting, specializing in creating impactful and thoughtfully curated art programs for healthcare and corporate environments, combining her passion for fine art with strategic business insight. Pertaining to healthcare projects, she has focused on integrating evidence-based design principles into art selection for these spaces. She understands the profound role art plays in promoting healing, reducing stress, and enhancing patient experiences.

Debbi’s curatorial process involves rigorous research in sourcing the ideal artists, imagery, and mediums to meet her clients’ specific needs that prioritize patient care and holistic healing. Her expertise lies in sourcing artwork that fosters calmness, comfort, and a connection to nature — essential qualities proven to contribute to wellness. Her work can be found in the corridors, lobbies and exam rooms of Mount Sinai, Northwell, White Plains, and Nyack Hospitals, as well as medical offices and senior living facilities, where her work transforms environments into places of solace, inspiration, and hope.

Elizabeth Sullivan is the AVP of Architecture at Northwell Health and has extensive experience in a variety of building types, including multi-family residential, medical office buildings, Academic Medical Centers, Labs, etc. Strong project management skills with a focus on the development of collaborative relationships to develop cohesive designs, drawings and construction documents that result in successful projects and solutions to real world challenges. Elizabeth has a demonstrated ability to complete multiple complex projects on schedule and within budget through proactive interaction and communication at all levels within an organization. She has extensive management and medical planning experience. As a healthcare planner, she specializes in medical master planning, small-and large-scale facilities, and complex multi-phased projects. Manages and coordinates with leadership, reconciling key stakeholder and user requirements with applicable codes and guidelines to achieve design solutions that not only meet programmatic needs but also translate into cohesive planning concepts.

Additionally, Elizabeth worked as both a Project Manager and later as a Director of Facilities and Real Estate Planning for Montefiore Health System. She has unique inside experience working as the client and understands the entire project process from the owner’s perspective. Elizabeth was the previous Healthcare Practice Leader at NK Architects, and an Associate Principal at Perkins Eastman.
She was an adjunct professor at the NYSID, and taught the Business of Healthcare to the Master of Professional Studies Students in Healthcare Design for the Summer 2022 term. Elizabeth is also and Advisory Board member for AMFP Greater NY, a member of the AIA-NY Design for Health Committee, is an Associate AIA member, and credentialed as LEED GA and EDAC.

Larissa W. Trinder, as Assistant Vice President for Arts in Medicine at New York City Health + Hospitals, is responsible for overseeing the stewardship, exhibition strategy, conservation, acquisition and curation of the health system’s collection of more than 7500 works of art, the largest non-museum collection in New York City, many dating back to the 1930’s. The visual collection is curated and installed throughout the health system to support intentional design principles and enhance patient and staff experiences. In addition, she oversees the development of evidence-based programs for patients, staff and the community that utilize the arts as a tool in healing.

Arts in Medicine is part of a larger systemwide strategy to support workforce wellness at the largest municipal health system in the United States. The department is situated within the Quality & Safety Cabinet whose mission advances a culture of quality for the hospital system. In addition, Larissa leads a growing civic engagement strategy that identifies cultural assets in communities to connect with patients, staff and families. Larissa has a Master’s degree in Public Policy from NYU’s Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service. She is a dedicated advocate for the essential role of the arts and humanities as interventions in healthcare to advance health outcomes and to enhance staff engagement and retention.

Christine Vandover brings creative knowledge and critical thinking to her interior design work at HOK. She is driven by a curiosity of fresh ideas and visuals and excels at motivating and inspiring integrated teams to deliver superb creative work. Her projects are as much about beauty as they are about health and wellness. Christine has led interior design for the NewYork-Presbyterian David H. Koch Center and the Alexandra Cohen Hospital for Women and Newborns, White & Case New York and Royal Caribbean headquarters in Miami, among several other high-profile corporate and healthcare projects.

Her work has been awarded by AIA, IIDA, Interior Design, and Design & Health, and published in HCD, Contract, Interior Design and Metropolis magazines. Christine's design expertise also includes product design, backstage dressing at NY Fashion Week, and she is passionate about sustainable design. She leads the HOK Interiors Sustainable Materials Initiative. Christine's furniture design for the IOA Portico collection was featured at the ICFF Opening Night Party at the MoMA and her design for Allsteel’s Reflect chair with BMW Designworks was awarded the Interior Design Best of Year award for Contract / Lounge.
