About the speakers….

Derek Sands is the Director of Technology Design at Enfinity Engineering with more than 20 years of experience in the audiovisual field and over 12 years in the technology field as a consultant, project manager, designer, and installer.  These systems cover a broad spectrum from structured cabling, telecommunications, nurse call, overhead paging, theatrical lighting & rigging, architectural lighting, audio visual systems just to mention a few.  All of these systems and more in a variety of project styles including healthcare facilities, house of worship, theaters and recording studios.

 

Ed Cantwell is President and CEO of the Center for Medical Interoperability, a 501(c)(3) organization led by health systems to advance data sharing between medical devices and systems. Involved since the Center’s founding, Mr. Cantwell previously served as its Executive Director, helping establish the initial board and strategic direction. Mr. Cantwell has over 25 years of experience leading advanced technology businesses and developing communications systems. Prior to joining the Center, he served as Senior Vice President at the West Health Institute and led 3M Corporation’s wireless business unit. Mr. Cantwell was Chairman, President and CEO of InnerWireless, which he founded in 2000, and of SpectraPoint Wireless. He held several positions within Texas Instruments during which time he obtained spectrum allocations from the Federal Communications Commission. Mr. Cantwell served as an Air Force fighter pilot for 12 years. He graduated from the University of Michigan’s executive training program, as well as the Air Force’s fighter weapons school. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in mechanical engineering from Duke University.

 

Mohammad Alai, AIA, ACHA is a licensed architect and a Board-Certified Healthcare Architect with more than forty years of experience in healthcare planning, design, and project management.  He is currently Director of Design with the Office of Design and Construction at AdventHealth, Central Florida Division. He has previously worked with architectural consulting firms and the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration. As Director of Design for AdventHealth, Mohammad is responsible for the development of design and project management guidelines as well as organization’s approach for medical and master planning. 

Mohammad has been involved with the design and management of projects of various sizes and scopes, notably AdventHealth Health Parks, the 12-Story AdventHealth for Women Tower which focuses on Women Services, NICU and Oncology, the 14-story Ginsburg Tower for Cardiac, Neurosurgery and Emergency Department, a Patient Tower at AdventHealth Celebration, and an eight-story Executive Tower at the Orlando Campus of AdventHealth.

Mohammad’s passions are progressive improvements of planning for efficiency, patient and staff focused spaces, and aesthetically pleasing healthcare facilities as well as post occupancy evaluations and, the contrarian review process of designs. Mohammad has been a speaker at various national conferences including HCD, ACE, AMFP and is the immediate past President of Florida Chapter of AMFP. Mohammad holds a Bachelor of Design from the University of Illinois and a Master of Architecture from Georgia Institute of Technology.
